Keeping your focus as the year begins
This newsletter is called Noise Reduction. How do you reduce your noise? More inspiration, guidance and fun inside
I had a call from a reporter this week. Nothing so unusual about that. But the topic was slightly different and validating for me.
We are running a story on the trend of the so-called Dopamine Detox - a practice of digital fasting, where people unplug from their devices and from the reward system of social media. I would be very interested in discussing with you how one might practise this…
I’d recently produced and published a video on YouTube: 5 Digital Minimalism Tips to Put Your Phone Down and Live a More Fulfilling Life
The reporter wanted to get my thoughts on Dopamine Detoxing, which was all the rage in Silicon Valley back in 2018/19, and seems to be making a come-back. It’s based on the faulty idea that by somehow living like a monk and depriving yourself of rewarding things ranging from things like social media or your phone, all the way up to pleasurable but unhealthy foods, sex, and most extremely, talking. At all.
Can you actually fast from a naturally-occurring brain neurotransmitter?
